The other day I took a Grit Assessment and began reading “Mastery” by Robert Greene which helped me identify my passion, and my uniqueness. I began thinking about my current employment and realized I wasn’t utilizing all my gifts and talents, that this is just a job. I don’t want another ‘job’ I want a position that I’m passionate about, that allows me to utilize my gift of creative writing. Which is why this position appealed to me.
If my whole life has been an apprenticeship leading toward mastery, what is my passion? Does my passion choose me? Being gifted is different than passion and mastery. Passion is a hidden force, that haunting feeling, or what you are obsessed with. What is guiding you? Have you defrauded your vocation, that voice you have silenced over the years? What is your sense of destiny? Your demon?
In order to master a field you must love the object, and feel a strong attraction to it. For me it is not words, but bringing ideas, characters, and thoughts to life. Comes from a depth inside, as if I have been re-awakened, like Frankenstein’s monster, my inner monster, writing, is alive again.
Occupy the perfect niche (Darwinian Strategy)—CHOOSE a field that roughly corresponds to your longings…look 4 side paths that attract you. When it is possible you make a move to this narrower field…the narrower the better…this niche corresponds to your ability.
Look for other skills you can conquer, continue this process as long as you wish…you create a field that is uniquely your own.
Avoid the false path—
Your passion is a hidden force that guides you to your destiny in life. Passion is an obsession.
